Now .... I guess on the first glance, this setup seems totally weird :-) but just have a look on the link below, to see, *what* brolly we used.... :-)

STROBIST: Two speedlites, one bare with red gel shooting in the background corner, one bare on 3 or 4 meters distance, shooting through the "gobo". The gobo is a "lace umbrella":http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B007IEGBDQ/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00.

You could get a sharper pattern projection if you want to (we did not) with the following tricks:
- increasing the gobo-lace distance
- decreasing the skin-gobo distance
- using a little cardboard aperture in front of the flash, so that this lightsource gets even smaller...
- using a lense in front of the flash to make the rays more parallel (some sort of gobo projector or cookie gun)
